One of the pepole who has always influenced alot of my work and has influenced my work in this project moreso than normal is Garry Winogrand.
His use of the ’snapshot asthetic’ is something that has always faccinated me.
Some of the images from his time in new mexico io feel are esspecialy relevent to this project.

As i said before – i think that Winogrands use of the snapshot asthetic has really effected the way that i shot this (and other) projects.
The two images here that i feel have the most in common with this project – don’t get me wrong – i think they all do, but the two with the most in common are the first anf third images displayed.
While trying not to flatter my self to much i can see parallels between the images -

- and -

and also in other images – but not quite as obviously or overwhelmingly for me.

Do i think i have sucseesded in this project?
Overall yes – i have produced a body of work that i am pleased with and that through (sevreal stages) of evolution has fulfilled the breif.
I am pleased that the breif itself has evolved from something shallow that dosnt raise the subject of anything to a peice of work that raises questions about the enviroment, planning and such.
I am happy with this piece of work.

I think that this is going to be my final shoot as with it i have ammassed a collection of images that i am pleased with and feel are appropriate to the breif.
I shall now go about edditing them down into the final six images.
Stay tuned for more exciting stuff.

Again i have the feeling that this project isn’t working.
The whole idea (both of them) seem shallow and pale.
So I’m twisting my breif again.
Due to the subject matter I’ve been shooting i have become rarther enchanted by photographing car parks.
I plan to continue photograhing them and make them the mainstay/staple of this project – I’m veiwing this twist (in fact bother of the twists) as an evolution of the original project.
One of the things that i have noticed about Blackpool is that abundence of space layed to one side purely for carparks and this is somethig that i plan to explore while i still think its relevent to the original breif.
I feel that photographing these carparks raises issues bassed around the subjects of land management and the treatment of the enviroment by the local planning authoritys.

Stuart Whipps

After looking at the work of Alex Soth i moved on to looking at the work of Stuart Whipps.
The same things that i said about Soths work also go here – and (again) i also prefere the still life esq shots and shots of buildings as opposed to the image(s) with pepole in them.
One thing that i think about this work when compared to Soths is that its significatly more formal and does not have so much of the snapshot asthetic quality – I’m not sure which work i prefere.

These are my first attempt at showing buisy places in Blackpool at a time of year when they are buisy but at a time of day when theyre not.
There all taken between 5am and 6am – lots of fun .
These are my edits from the two rolls of film i shot – out off all of them i feel that the middle images is the strongist out of them all – the other two i can take or leave.

It occurd to me the other day that this project wasnt going as planned.
The very idea of documenting Blackpool going into session is not very interesting in itself – it needs a bit of a twist.
Therefore – i am going to twist it slightly – into – photographing buissy places in Blackpool at times of year when they are buissy but at times of day when they arnt. I feel this is a better way of going about this project than just repetidely photofrahing the same places over and over again – which, by the way – is a nightmare.
